Julie Hunt, Partnerships Manager at Voluntary Action Worthing (VAW) shares some exciting information for volunteers, not-for-profits and anyone thinking of volunteering in our community.
It’s a national campaign which runs annually, celebrating the real difference local people make through their volunteering.
Locally there are simply hundreds of you providing your time, skills and experience in a wide variety of roles to help our member organisations, and the many not-for-profit organisations across our wonderful town, do more.
Nationally, an estimated 14.2 million people formally volunteered at least once a month in 2015/16 and the value of formal volunteering was estimated to be £22.6bn in 2015. (ncvo.org)
Volunteering really does make a difference to individuals and communities, from improving the environment we live in, spending time with those who may otherwise be lonely and contributing to a range of other essential services and support.
Many local people also volunteer as trustees. Trustees run your local charities and they are responsible for the legal compliance and good practice of the charity. It can be a demanding, strategic role, and one that is often undertaken quietly behind the scenes. VAW wants to support our local trustees to make their role a little easier and as part of Volunteers Week, and as a gift to all our local trustees, we are to launch a brand new Trustee Club for Worthing.
Funded by the Sussex Community Foundation, it will be launched in the summer, and will provide free networking events, peer support and feature free masterclasses by MHA Carpenter Box, our delivery partners. It’s essentially a free membership club with a regular newsletter and access to free resources specifically focused on good governance. If you are a trustee, or know someone who is, tell them about this new initiative because it is for them – to say a big thank you from VAW!
