The Wonderful World of Dissocia
April 26 @ 7:45 pm - 10:00 pm
An event every day that begins at 7:45 pm, repeating until 27th April 2019
‘The Wonderful World of Dissocia’ written by Anthony Nielson, performing 25th-27th April, 2019 doors open at 7:00pm and play starts at 7:45pm at St Paul’s Worthing. There’s literally a whole world of hilarious & theatrical characters in this contemporary play that explores dissociative experience and mental health issues. The play is in two contrasting acts, with the first a vivid recreation of Lisa’s dream-like imaginary life, “full of colour and fun”, and the second well we let you work that out for yourselves when you see it!
The play contains some strong language and adult themes – recommended age 14 and over.
Lisa Jones finds herself heading, like Alice but not down the rabbit-hole, but in a lift in search of a “lost hour” of her life, emerging in a carpeted, wallpapered landscape populated by one arresting peculiarity after the other. Stand by for inspired lunacy and witty invention…
Along the way, she meets among others: two neurotic ‘Insecurity Guards’, an oatcake eating ‘Oathtaker’ with his entourage of singing & dancing ‘Attendants’, a very morally dubious ‘Scape Goat’, an endlessly victimised council employee who’s car changes into a plane on a bombing raid, and a singing polar bear puppet that lives in a fridge. The entire play is fresh, often hilarious, moving and highly relevant, exploring the treatment of mental health issues not necessarily to be critical, but rather to focus on how it may feel to be ‘treated’.
Our team of very talented local actors, cast and crew come together again at St Paul’s to produce amateur theatre to a very high standard, and all profits from Saints Theatre Group go back to St Paul’s to help maintain this wonderful community venue.
