Mosaic is the medium of choice for artist and musician/songwriter Rachel Reader, and they will be presented at her debut exhibition at Colonnade House.
The ideas and permutations are endless when using mosaic tiles and the versatility of the medium is evidenced in Rachel’s exploration of ideas, textures, sizes, colours and thicknesses. It is a wonderful way to tap into innate creative abilities, bring out something completely unique that never existed before and bring alive things that were once dull, colourless and boring.
However, being selective about the type of tiles used brings a range of different looks, hues and appearances to the artwork when the light is shining on them. The use of mirrors is particularly exciting and they bring eye catching and absolutely stunning effects.
Rachel has always engaged with art since childhood, and loves visiting museums and art galleries. By being self-taught she has developed her own style as an artist over the years. Taking inspiration from nature as well as impressionist painters, particularly their use of colour and vibrancy.
The piece, ‘From Brokenness to Beauty’ is really a subconscious expression of Rachel’s life where she was once smashed to smithereens due to personal trauma suffered 15 years ago.
After a long journey of healing, wholeness and restoration, those broken pieces of Rachel’s life have been individually put back together in such a way that she now feels whole and healed, reflecting light, love and beauty in her life to others.
‘From Brokenness to Beauty’ now acts as a message to others that nothing is beyond redemption and that something beautiful can come out of the broken parts of our lives.
Rachel is also a musician/songwriter and is currently in the process of completing her third album.
