February 9 @ 7:00 pm - 10:30 pm£5.50
Colonnade House & So it goes present a screening of BAIT as part of Films on the Gallery Wall.
“One of the defining British films of the decade” ★★★★★
– Mark Kermode (The Observer)
So It Goes are delighted to collaborate with Colonnade House as part of Films on the Gallery Wall with a screening of Mark Jenkins award winning and boldly experimental Bait at Subway EPS .
This hand crafted and offbeat film is the tale of the gentrification of a Cornish fishing village in the midst of tourist season, predominantly through the eyes of brothers Martin and Steven. Tensions simmer as old ways of life and tradition begin to fade from sight, all told with expressionistic flair and shot on black and white 16mm Bolex cine-cameras. The films expert use of montage, alongside its unique sound design, dubbed dialogue and wry humour help to make it truly quintessential original British cinema. Bait explores film history juxtaposed with very modern themes in a truly unmissable way.
“Jenkins has crafted a 21st-century feature that carries within its DNA the evolution of the moving image, from Méliès to Andrew Kötting via Robert Bresson, Lynne Ramsay and (in a roundabout way) the magical visions of Powell and Pressburger.” – The Guardian
“Strange, spellbinding and timely. One of the most thrillingly original British films in years” – Little White Lies
This film will be screened at Subway EPS: Foresters Hall, Newland Rd, Worthing BN11 1LB
