Derek Nash Quartet

Derek Nash was born in Stockport and started playing the piano aged 6 before transferring to the saxophones when he turned 13. He moved to London, after graduating with a degree in electro acoustics from Stockport University and joined the BBC’s sound department. He played on many soundtracks of popular BBC programs as well as playing in Mark Bassey’s band ‘Mr B plays Basie’. He became very busy playing in his own band Sax Appeal, which he has run continuously for over 30 years. He left the BBC in 2003 and for the last 13 years he has been a featured soloist in the Jools Holland Rhythm & Blues Orchestra. He also runs a very successful recording studio and has recorded many of the top jazz stars. He received a gold disc for recording Jamie Cullum’s 2001 record ‘Pointless Nostalgic’. He is accompanied tonight by Dave Beebee on piano, Godfrey Sheppard on bass and Milo Fell on drums.
