Our first public event of 2018 and this time we will be doing something a little different. As there will be no BBC Stargazing Live this year the astro event website “Go Stargazing” are attempting to get local groups to still hold events around the country, more info here http://gostargazing.co.uk/2017/12/12/bbc-stargazing-live-2018/
These events are timed to focus more on dark skies and what you can see so there is no Moon visible. This means our normal public observing spot along the prom isn’t going to show us much due to the light pollution so we will be moving West along the seafront to Goring Gap which is quite a bit darker and should reveal more of what a dark sky has to offer. This will be the first time we have tried this so it will be good to see how it goes.
If forecast is looking bad on the 16th we may swap to the 17th
As usual children are very welcome to attend but must be accompanied by an adult. This is even more important as it will be darker than normal at this site.
We cant stop people using torches but white light torches will destroy your night vision which can take 30mins plus to return, red light torches are far better if available.
As a group we no longer allow the use of laser pens of any kind at our private sessions so we would very much appreciate it if these are not used at our public events either.
